چکیده

Abstract The necessity of plural valuation costs for flood risk management is widely acknowledged, but practical case studies are still scarce. We developed a GIS-based framework to determine spatially explicit priority categories intervention schemes on the Drava River, Southern Hungary. A conventional economic evaluation, including land market prices and additional due legal conservation restrictions, was complemented by ecological vulnerability. inclusion vulnerability significantly changed proposed areas interventions: in this case, softwood riparian forests face far less threat, together with other Natura 2000 habitats, comparison unprotected wetlands grasslands. This also highlights habitats joint water projects, utilising synergies between several EU Directives as Birds Directive, Habitats Flood Water Framework Directive. Our adaptable floodplains along major or medium-sized European rivers, assuming that specific local settings considered.

Spatially explicit avalanche risk assessment linking Bayesian networks to a GIS

Avalanche disasters are associated with significant monetary losses. It is thus crucial that avalanche risk assessments are based on a consistent and proper assessment of the uncertainties involved in the modelling of the avalanche runout zones and the estimations of the damage potential. We link a Bayesian network (BN) to a Geographic Information System (GIS) for avalanche risk assessment in o...

A GIS GRASS-embedded decision support framework for flood forecasting

In this study spatial analysis tools are presented which allow the simulation and prediction of flash floods in semiarid basins to be carried out. Different applications are analysed of the Shyska operational system in real basins, developed with functions embedded in a Geographical Information System (GIS), which combines information from latest generation data acquisition technologies in real...

A framework for evaluating flood risk governance

Calls to strengthen flood risk governance are echoed across Europe amidst a growing consensus that floods will increase in the future. Accompanying the pursuit of societal resilience, other normative agendas relating legitimacy (e.g. accountability and public participation), and resource efficiency, have become attached to discussions concerning flood risk governance. Whilst these represent goa...
